New Technology

In today's fast-changing global market, many engineering departments seek to reduce product cycles and costs. Increasing demand for electric power and for equipment such as generators, actuators, and electronic devices puts particular pressure on manufacturers to speed up product development. Many of them now use tools that predict the performance of complicated designs with fewer resources and in less time.

Analysis, the only cost-effective tool for this purpose, provides accuracy and speed in predicting electrical and electronic device performance. Analysis helps users test their electrical designs through soft prototyping (the practice of simulating object behavior on the computer as opposed to creating costly "hard prototypes") thereby giving users cost and time advantages while helping them save resources.

The Strategic Design Tool

The COSMOS/EM finite element based analysis program puts a strategic design tool at your fingertips. From the same company who created COSMOS/M -- a leading desktop analysis program for structural and mechanical problems -- COSMOS/EM offers electrical engineers the same ease of use and power as its sister product. Unlike any other electromagnetic analysis program, COSMOS/EM offers mainframe analysis power on personal computers, Macintoshes, and engineering workstations at a fraction of the cost of mainframe programs.

Accessible Technology

For analysis to become a strategic tool, it must be accessible and easy to use. Many users find COSMOS/EM one of the most intuitive analysis programs currently marketed. It features an easy-to-use interface and a powerful analysis engine -- ideal for novice and expert analysts alike.

Modeling EM Problems

You can create and prepare electromagnetic and electrostatic models easily -- either by transferring your CAD models through IGES or DXF translators, or by building models directly through GEOSTAR, COSMOS/EM's graphics driven pre- and postprocessor.

GEOSTAR offers on-line help, pull down menus, and icons to help you create your designs quickly. Its 2D and 3D automatic mesher lets you mesh complex problems fast, even those with small air gaps, at a click of the mouse. It's that simple!

COSMOS/EM is so flexible that you can easily define your own materials library. COSMOS/EM even features an on-line library of current source primitives for 3D magnetostatic analysis to simplify the modeling of complex conductors.

State of the Art Solver Technology

COSMOS/EM is fast. On average, with all analysis programs, about 50% of analysis time goes into obtaining an optimum mesh. COSMOS/EM's automatic mesher helps reduce the amount of time and energy spent on meshing, so you can use your time on more important tasks.

Its new proprietary solver lets you analyze large problems up to 10 times faster than was possible in the past, while reducing disk space requirements by up to tenfold; as a matter of fact, the larger the problem, the higher ratio of COSMOS/EM's speed.

Electromagnetic Analysis

COSMOS/EM offers the best value for your electromagnetic analysis money. Its analysis engine, ESTAR, performs 2D and 3D magnetostatics, transient and AC eddy current analysis, electrostatics, and current flow analyses -- all within a single, easy to use software package. It solves for design parameters, such as force, torque, induced eddy current, losses, inductance, and capacitance matrix. Contour and vector plots display the analysis output for additional insight into the design.

Viewing Results

If a picture can say a thousand words, then COSMOS/EM plots can speak volumes. In addition to the standard contour and vector results plots, COSMOS/EM offers several new display techniques. Isoplane plots show planes or surfaces of a result, while cross-sectional plots of results can be generated for viewing internal or hard to see areas. COSMOS/EM plots offer meaningful feedback to your EM design questions.

Coupled Analysis

COSMOS/EM provides another benefit when you need to check your electric designs for thermal and mechanical behavior. Its results can be linked easily to COSMOS/M's structural and thermal modules. With these, you can obtain linear static analyses along with heat transfer analyses to solve magneto-structural and electro-thermal problems. Since COSMOS/M modules share the same easy-to-use interface and database, you won't waste valuable time on cumbersome data transfers or learning how to use an awkward interface.

COSMOS/EM offers exceptional speed and accuracy in a comprehensive package thereby helping you save time and money by solving a broad range of problems quickly.
