COSMOS/FFE: FFE means fast finite element. Which may be a major understatement.
COSMOS/FFE is a brand new, FEA technology that provides answers to complex problems up to 100 times faster than conventional programs. Sometimes even faster than that. The larger the problem, the faster the comparable speed.
Before COSMOS/FFE, the solution of complex 100,000 or more degrees of freedom (DOF) design problems in a reasonable time frame required high performance mainframes or supercomputers - and at least a gigabyte of disk storage. As a matter of fact, the more complex a problem, the longer the solution time and the larger the required disk space. This phenomena holds true regardless of whether one uses H or P method solutions. Here's why - the more sophisticated the design problem, the more DOF are usually used to describe the method for analysis. In the H method, complicated problems may demand about 100,000 DOF. In the P method, the total number of elements may be less but the bandwidth of the analysis matrix may be much larger, thereby increasing the total number of arithmetic operations. In either case, solution time and the needed disk space may be very high.
But COSMOS/FFE is different! It uses brand new technology and can solve many complicated problems faster on a PC using only a fraction of the disk space, and at a fraction of the cost. The first new finite element technology to be developed completely from scratch in many years, the FFE system uses H and P based elements, modern iterative methods, sparse matrix techniques and improvements in disk storage management procedures.
FFE truly empowers design engineers to create better designs through optimization. Optimization requires a formerly tedious process that involves many analysis runs. By reducing analysis time by up to 100 times and storage requirements by more that 10 times, COSMOS/FFE makes optimization truly practical for the first time.
